Musically this song is a tribute (Hopefully not blatant forgery) to Hank Williams. Rusty wrote this song one night when thinking about what type of song to write. He thought he would like to write a song that told a story about a man who returned from a long journey and many toils to his home and found that he couldn't find his lover and that the home he had lived in was very different. As he poured over these ideas he soon realized that since the 30's and 40's people have been writing this song: It's called The Blues. So as a way to sort of poke fun at his own unoriginality and pay tribute to the timelessness and applicability of the classic themes of blues music this song was written.
lyrics
I wanna tell you a story
I don't know which words to use
Of kings and queens of soldiers and sailors
But every word I sing just sounds like the blues
I wanna tell you about my momma
I wanna tell you about the place I grew up
I wanna tell you how when you got nothin' you got nothin' to lose
But every word I sing just sounds like the blues
I wanna tell you about the hard times
But it ain't ilke you don't already know
I wanna tell you how I'll put these hands to good use
But every word I sing just sounds like the blues
